NEWS FROM THE DIOCESAN SERVICES - August 23, 2022

The Directory for Bishops stipulates that the diocesan pastor should make a pastoral visit of his parishes every five years. I made such a visit shortly after my arrival in Gatineau in 2011. I had intended to do a second one a few years ago, but our diocesan synodal process and the subsequent pandemic forced me to postpone that project. I believe the time has come to put my good intentions into action. I am therefore announcing an episcopal pastoral visit of the parishes of the archdiocese beginning this October.

I propose to proceed by zones. The tentative schedule is as follows:
  • October - the Eastern Zone (MRC Papineau)
  • November - the Northern Zone (MRC Collines-de-l'Outaouais and MRC Vallée-de-la-Gatineau MRC)
  • January 15 to February 15 – the English Zone
  • February 15 to March 15 - the Central Zone (the city of Gatineau east of the Gatineau River)
  • April 15 to May 15 – the Western Zone (City of Gatineau west of the Gatineau River)
For each of these zones, I would like to form a team of priests and some lay leaders to prepare, animate and evaluate the visit. Among the proposed activities: a regional retreat, workshops on the priorities identified during the synodal consultation (living liturgies, welcoming parishes, sharing the Word), sessions on evangelization, etc.

Each parish will be invited to make an analysis of its vitality, based on guidelines that will be provided to them in preparation for the visit. This will allow us to look together at the future of Christian life in the area and the paths to follow to ensure the spread of the Gospel in the community.
I ask all the faithful of the diocese to hold this visit in their prayers starting today. Together, let us live this time as a moment of celebration, discernment and communion.

SUMMARY REPORTS OF THE SYNODAL PROCESS

It is a day of joy for all of us, diocesan of Gatineau, with our pastor, Bishop Paul-André Durocher, and especially all those who participated in the synodal consultation. Here are the two summary reports (ours and the one of the Assembly of Quebec Catholic Bishops (AQCB) ) of the synodal process that took place among us and throughout the province of Quebec. These documents are now available on the diocesan website.

PREPARATION FOR THE NEW PASTORAL YEAR 2022-2023

On Thursday, August 18, the Diocesan Pastoral Committee ( DPC) met with Bishop Paul-André at the Diocesan Centre to plan the next pastoral year 2022-2023. This meeting was a follow-up to the Strategic Retreat which took place earlier in July, and whose objective was to identify the salient points that emerged from the synodal process in the parishes and from the synodal assembly of May 28. During this meeting, the planning of the pastoral year was discussed, based on the main priorities identified. Thus, during the pastoral year, we will be particularly attentive to welcome. This priority comes back as a particularly urgent, main and important theme. We will also be attentive during this new year to make the connection between the Word of God and life, to the importance of lively celebrations, to the concern to discern and decide together (it has been mentioned that this concern is the one that causes the most frustration in parishes) and to the concern to exercise collaborative leadership.

For the month of September, here is an important event:
Friday 16 September: launch of the diocesan pastoral year (details to follow)

NEWS FROM THE PARISHES AND MOVEMENTS

RECOGNITION DISCOUNT FOR "FAITH WORKERS"

Faith workers (employees of the Diocesan Center, parish employees, members of Fabrique Councils, members of liturgy committees, members of pastoral committees, members of choirs, members of diocesan committees, members of the Knights of Columbus, Daughters of Isabella, etc.) often have little recognition for all the time and effort they offer to the Church.

Les Jardins du Souvenir, owned by the Archbishop of Gatineau, would like to thank you for your commitment and offer you a 15% discount on all our funeral services as a token of our appreciation. Plan your farewells with serenity.
