NEWS FROM THE DIOCESAN SERVICES - May 30, 2023
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE PRESBYTERIUM OF GATINEAU
This Thursday, June 01, marks the opening of the Annual General Meeting of the Gatineau Presbyterium. This assembly is rooted in the spirit and orientations of the Second Vatican Council: "Wise co-operators with the episcopal order, of which they are the helpers and instruments, called to serve the People of God, priests constitute, with their bishop, a single presbyterate with diverse functions". (Lumen Gentium 28).
The fraternity and unity of the presbyterate are nurtured and built through mission, the Word and prayer. In a diocese, the General Assembly of Priests is an important moment for the life and ministry of priests.
The day is divided into four parts: in the morning, a report will be presented on a province-wide reflection conducted between 2018 and 2021 on the life and ministry of priests in Quebec. In the afternoon, Ms. Chantale Duguay will speak on responsible pastoral care (securing environments). This will be followed by a report from the Moderator of the Presbyteral Council on the pastoral year just ended, followed by elections for new members of the Presbyteral Council. Finally, there will be an assembly of concerned priests to discuss the Pension Fund.

TWO PEOPLE FROM OUR DIOCESE AT "VENEZ À L'ÉCART" IN GRANBY
From June 04 to 17, a unique Church experience will be held in Granby, bringing together priests, deacons and lay people committed to the Church. It's called Venez à l'écart. It was initiated by the Assemblée des Évêques Catholiques du Québec. The first edition took place in 2011. At the time, it was held in Trois-Rivières, at Cap-de-la-Madeleine. For the past few years, the event has been held in Granby. Participants generally have a few years' pastoral experience in a parish or other setting. As the name implies, it's a time of renewal, reflection, prayer and celebration. It is neither a session per se nor a course, but a Church experience offered to those with pastoral responsibility in parishes and dioceses. It lasts two weeks and is divided into three movements. In the first movement, participants are invited to step back and look at their personal realities, the realities of the world, the Church and their ministry, and the challenges they face. The second movement aims to discern the vision that participants have of the Church in mission and adjust it as far as possible to God's desire for humanity. Finally, the third movement aims to prepare participants for their return to the field, so that they can live out their commitment to the Church as serenely as possible.
Since 2011, several people from our diocese have taken part. For the 2023 edition, Abbé Alphonse Baende (parish priest in Petite-Nation) and Nicole Myre (diocesan and parish pastoral agent, St-François de Sales and ND du Très-Saint-Rosaire) will be taking part. We wish them a valuable, enriching and invigorating experience.
