A WORD FROM ARCHBISHOP PAUL-ANDRÉ DUROCHER

The government's new requirement regarding vaccination passports makes some people happy and dismays others. It is popular with people who fear catching the virus and who, for this reason, stay away from places of worship. For them, this requirement ensures the security required to come to church to celebrate the sacraments. The same regulation, however, is a source of pain for those who, for whatever reason, do not want to be vaccinated: they find themselves prevented from participating in the same celebrations. READ MORE...

INFO SYNOD

The work of this synodal process launched last October 16 is beginning to bear fruit. In the last few weeks, we have begun to receive reports from groups that have met. The content of what has come out of these reports is the experience of listening as a seed of hope and joy.  In addition, one of the points of convergence concerns a kind of examination of conscience on the quality of our listening in the Church, a listening that is called to grow.  You can reach André by email inkela@diocesegatineau.org or by phone at 819.771.8391, ext. 300.

NEWS FROM THE PARISHES AND MOVEMENTS

On Sunday, December 12, at Our Lady of Guadeloupe Church, a mass was celebrated with the help of Kateri Native Ministry of Ottawa. Here are some of the comments:

- "Thank you again for inviting Kateri Ministry to participate in the December 12 Mass. We would also like to express our thanks to the parishioners for their openness to native songs and the cleansing rite...Many people came to express their appreciation to our organization for their contribution..."  Donna Naughton, Executive Director of Kateri Native Ministry, Ojibway and Cree Nations.

- For the first time in the Outaouais, the N. D. de la Guadeloupe Church held a service. For the first time in the Outaouais, N. D. de la Guadeloupe Church hosted the Kateri Ministry of Ottawa whose mission is healing, reconciliation and spiritual growth for Aboriginal people. The mass began with a purification ceremony and songs in the native language and a prayer to Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, born of an Algonquin mother and a Mohawk father and canonized in 2012. We were well received by the parishioners of the parish." Claudette Dumont-Smith, K.N.M..member from the Algonquin Nation.

- Taking the time to recognize oneself as a sinner and to ask for forgiveness, according to the native rite, was very meaningful and well received by the assembly. How good it is to recognize what brings us together and can lead us to the longed-for reconciliation. Together, may we continue to foster this mutual knowledge in order to move forward and build a world of solidarity by recognizing "all brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ...". Monique Beauchemin, sco.

- I enjoyed participating in the Eucharistic celebration in solidarity with the First Nations. The songs and music were well integrated and harmonized with the rite and the celebration. The smudging is an excellent symbol of religious syncretism. I look forward to more opportunities to meet with members of the Aboriginal Council. Thank you to Notre Dame de l'Eau Vive Parish for your welcome.  Luc Picard, St. Joseph Cathedral Parish.
