PASTORAL LETTERS CONCERNING RECONCILIATION WITH THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

On 8 February 2023, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops issued the following four pastoral letters on reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Intended as a framework for local engagement with Indigenous Peoples, the letters are the fruit of many months of listening, encounter, and dialogue with them, including through Listening Circles, the Indigenous Delegation to the Vatican in April 2022, and Pope Francis' Apostolic Voyage to Canada in July of the same year. See the letters here.

LENTEN TESTIMONY - 1st Sunday of Lent February 26, 2023

This first Sunday of Lent orients our journey together towards Easter by keeping our focus on our diocesan synodal priorities. One of these priorities is to welcome and accompany families from elsewhere. Walking together means having our eyes and hearts open and allowing ourselves to be surprised by the unexpected calls of the Holy Spirit. Read the testimony.

MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS FOR LENT 2023
Lenten Penance and the Synodal Journey

The Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke all recount the episode of the Transfiguration of Jesus. There we see the Lord's response to the failure of his disciples to understand him. Shortly before, there had been a real clash between the Master and Simon Peter, who, after professing his faith in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, rejected his prediction of the passion and the cross. Jesus had firmly rebuked him: "Get behind me, Satan! You are a scandal to me, because you do not think according to God, but according to men!" (Mt 16:23). Following this, "six days later, Jesus took with him Peter, James and John his brother and led them away to a high mountain" (Mt 17:1). Read the letter here.

An online conference will be held next week on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 7:00pm which promises to be both interesting and enlightening. Archbishop Durocher will participate as a panelist.
