NEWS FROM THE DIOCESAN SERVICES - June 13, 2023
IT'S TIME FOR LÉA TO RETIRE!
The diocese would like to mark the retirement of Léa Normandeau on Thursday 15 June. A member of the diocesan centre team for many years, currently our dean and the "memory of the diocesan centre" on an ongoing basis, Ms. Normandeau embodies the face of the diocesan centre team and its mission: a tool at the service of the Christian communities that make up the local church in Gatineau. After all these years of loyal service, supporting the chancery, the bishop's office, parish communities and even individuals, she has decided to set the sails of her ship for a quieter destination, at the pace of... retirement.
This Thursday, June 15, we'll be marking the occasion with a special Eucharistic celebration at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of the diocesan center, and an "open door afternoon" to which all those who wish to express their gratitude are freely invited.
A LOOK BACK AT THE PASTORAL YEAR 2022-2023 THAT IS ENDING
As summer and holidays approach, it's often a good idea to look in the rear-view mirror and see how far we've come. This look should be understood as a discernment rather than a summary. During this pastoral year 2022-2023, in our diocese, we have given ourselves a few guidelines, or if you will, we have identified a few priority calls. These calls stem directly from two synodal processes initiated, on the one hand by our diocese, and on the other by Pope Francis. In his pastoral letter "In All Things, Welcome!", Mgr Paul-André returned to the subject of welcome, identified as a "key to reflection and action" for the whole diocese. Rereading the Gospel of Jesus, he came to the following conclusion: "For a Christian, loving your neighbor means first of all welcoming him or her! To become a more missionary Church, it is important to welcome God, who always comes to meet us, and "others as they are, to integrate them into our communities and to accompany them". STE-TRINITÉ PARISH inaugurates the Jubé Média project with the help of the NOVATIO FOUNDATION
On May 21st, during Sunday's mass, the Sainte-Trinité parish inaugurated and blessed the recording studio as part of the official launch of the Jubé Média web channel, which received financial support from the Novatio Foundation.
The launch took place in the presence of several representatives of the Foundation, including the Chair of the Board of Directors, Richard Rochefort. This project of a local and parish television channel offers the opportunity to be an outward-bound church via the web. The recording studio and control room have been set up in the rood screen of Ste-Trinité church, and it is equipped with fixed cameras that allow for online broadcasting of all parish celebrations.
Last February, for the Novatio Foundation's first year of operation, the Board of Directors announced $71,270 in funding for projects. In 2023, the Foundation supported 11 projects in parishes and community organizations across the Archdiocese of Gatineau.
La Soupe de l'amitié in Maniwaki: a fine project supported by the NOVATIO FOUNDATION
The Foundation team visited La Soupe de l'amitié in Maniwaki on May 30th. This project is organised by the L'Assomption-de-Marie parish and financially supported by the Novatio Foundation. Over 150 people enjoyed the last meal of the 2022-2023 pastoral year, served by a large team of volunteers under the leadership of the parish council and the parish priest, Father Sylvain Desrosiers. Meals are prepared by volunteers. La soupe de l'amitié offers a meal to those who may not have enough to eat, it is a chance to reduce loneliness and to rebuild ties in the community. There are even a few youngsters from the elementary school across the street from the parish hall who can come and enjoy a good meal twice a week. La soupe de l'amitié will continue next September.
