NEWS FROM THE DIOCESAN SERVICES - May 21, 2024

On May 28th, I will celebrate my 70th birthday. I find myself reflecting on the incredible individuals across our diocese who continuously make a meaningful difference in their parishes and communities through acts of love and kindness. Your unwavering dedication and generosity touch countless lives and truly make our world a better place.

As I look to the future, my hope is for the continued flourishing of our communities and the support of those in need. I humbly ask that you pray for me, my family, and my episcopal ministry. For those who would like to offer a gift, I encourage you to donate to the Novatio Foundation; it would be the most meaningful gesture. Your contribution will help sustain the vitality of parish and community life for years to come.

Thank you for all that you do to make our world brighter. Together, let us continue to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14)

+ Paul-André Durocher

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Pontifical Academy for Life and other key partners are organizing an international interfaith symposium on palliative care. Entitled "Towards a Narrative of Hope", the symposium will take place from May 21 to 23, 2024, in Toronto.
Here below you can watch the video announcing this international interfaith symposium on palliative care.

CONTINUATION OF THE TOUR OF SUPPORTED PROJECTS

On April 27 and 28, the Novatio team continued its efforts to distribute funds and visit recipients. On April 27, during a community supper at the Notre-Dame de l'Eau Vive parish, Foundation Director Deacon René Laprise presented Chantale Duguay, chair of the fabrique, with grants for three pastoral projects supporting teenagers (Ziléos group), young adults aged 18 to 35 and the welcoming and integration of new Canadian citizens.
On April 28, Richard Rochefort, Chair of the Novatio Board, awarded grants for two projects to Father Papy Léonel Manengo, the parish priest of St. Joseph's Cathedral. The first project is a summer day camp for children and young people in the parish, and the second is aimed at combating loneliness and isolation in the community.
On May 7, the joint Board of Directors of the Lièvre Food Bank and the Dîner pour mieux apprendre organization welcomed Deacon René Laprise and Monique Washnuk from Novatio. This provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the needs of families and singles in the Buckingham area, and the Foundation's mission. The presentation of the two donations took place at both organizations' premises.
As announced in the April 9 Newsletter, the Novatio Foundation Board of Directors has granted a total of $104,500 in its second year of operation. The Foundation's first annual campaign runs until June 30. Donations can be made online.
