NEWS FROM THE DIOCESAN SERVICES - April 26, 2022

DIOCESAN SYNODAL ASSEMBLY

From 2018 to 2021, our diocese has been going through a synodal process under the theme "Christ, Us, Our Communities, Our Settings."
On Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Collège Saint-Alexandre (2425 Rue Saint-Louis Gatineau), we will experience an important event. We are invited to a diocesan synodal assembly. During this assembly, we will do a work of discernment under the action of the Holy Spirit: we will validate the reports of the dialogues from the parishes, and we will formulate a great diocesan synthesis. This synthesis will be integrated into a Canadian document that will be part of the preparation tools for the Bishops' Synod in Rome in 2023. The purpose of the assembly is also to allow us to look together at the road ahead.
Priests, parishioners delegated by their communities, delegates of the diocesan movements and religious communities are invited to this assembly.

Schedule of the Synodal Assembly:

  • 8:30 a.m. Welcome
  • 9:00 a.m. Welcome and orientation for the day with an opening prayer
  • 9:30 am to 12:00 pm Diocesan Synodal Assembly sessions. Delegates work in workshops followed by a plenary session.
  • 12:00 Liturgy of the Word to conclude the synodal process
  • 12:30 BBQ picnic and celebration of the 25th anniversary of the episcopal ordination of Bishop Paul-André Durocher
  • 7:00 pm Concert with Robert Lebel at Maria Goretti Church (664 Rue de Duberger, Gatineau)

NB: The picnic and the concert are open to all diocesans. The picnic (BBQ) is free, but it is important to notify Mrs. Annie Esson Assoua assouaa@diocesegatineau.org ext. 306, in order to provide food accordingly.
For the Robert Lebel concert, tickets, at a cost of 10$, are now available online and next week, will be available at the following outlets St-André-Avellin (819 983-2211), St-Grégoire de Nazianze (819 986-3381), Ste-Trinité (819 663 4240), St-Paul (819 684-5318), St-Joseph Cathedral (819 771-7454), diocesan center (819 771-8391, ext. 309)

SYNODAL PROCESS UPDATE

We are taking advantage of the beginning of the Easter season to focus on the Good News of the Risen Christ at the heart of our lives as baptized people. I thank the 461 participants who generously attended the dialogue groups. As of April 22, 2022, we have received 133 reports and we continue to receive them.  These reports are precious and as in the abundance of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes, our wicker baskets are overflowing and nothing will be lost. At the end of this whole process, a compilation of all the reports will hopefully be available in the summer of 2022 on the diocesan website.

We are currently working on a synthesis of these reports that will be presented to the delegates of the Diocesan Synodal Assembly to discern together the paths on which the Holy Spirit wants to lead us. This synthesis will be sent to the delegates one week before May 28, 2022. This meeting will be a community exercise in prayer and discernment for the writing of the final synthesis.

THE FONDATION NOVATIO WILL HOLD AN INFORMATION SESSION ON ITS MISSION

The Novatio Foundation will offer four information sessions in the pastoral regions of the diocese in April and May. Founded by the Archdiocese of Gatineau, the Novatio Foundation's mission is to support innovative pastoral projects with an evangelical perspective for the excluded, the poor and the disadvantaged in our communities, isolated seniors, Aboriginals, immigrants, families and youth. The funds will allow for the enhancement of activities, projects and renewed services for the pastoral and missionary impulse emanating from the movements, parishes and the diocesan team.

Session in the English-speaking pastoral area: Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. - Our Lady of the Annunciation

THE 2022 FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN FOR OUR PARISHES

This year again, the 2022 fundraising campaign for our parishes ("la dîme") is currently taking place in all 53 parishes of our diocesan Church. Thanks to the partnership of Jardins du Souvenir, the Archdiocese continues to work with parishes by providing promotional tools and advertising. With a new theme My Parish...My Neighborhood Spiritual Health Centre, the campaign runs throughout the spring with a reminder in the fall. In the coming weeks, a video message from Bishop Paul-André Durocher will also be published on the archdiocesan web platforms. To make a donation to any of the parishes, it is possible to via the online donation platform on the Archdiocese of Gatineau website. Your donation allows your parish to continue its mission. Thank you for your donation!
